Expansion in the health system in the U.S

In a previous note we discussed Obama´s plan to expand the coverage of the health system in the United States and was still awaiting congressional approval to implement the new law. Wednesday February 4, according to The Wall Street Journal, President Barack Obama signed the new bill, calling the measure as a “down payment”.
In his attempt to make all Americans have health insurance, the President said: “I refuse to accept that millions of our children fail to reach their full potential because we fail to meet their basic needs… and health care for our children is one of our obligations”. The program will cover 4 million low-income children not previously covered.
The anticipated $33 billion five-year cost of the expansion will be financed by an increase in tobacco taxes, including a 61-cent-a-pack increase in cigarette taxes that would raise the federal excise tax on a pack of cigarettes to $1.
Program´s expansion is the first step in Obama´s goal of remaking the U.S health care system, which we describe in detail in a previous note.
