From the CISS annual meeting in Guatemala (third report)
Virgilio Levaggi, ILO Office Director for Central America, Haiti, Panama and Dominican Republic; spoke about the Global Jobs Pact that was held in June at Geneva, which was endorsed by all members within 20 days. This pact calls for taking measures to keep workers in times of crisis, support companies, gender equality and employment generation. It also proposed investment policies and public infrastructure, special employment programs, increased social protection and the obligation to have minimum wage. With this, the pact aims to form productive employment in decent conditions with respect to workers. Levaggi emphasized the importance of protecting families and especially children of unemployment in times of crisis, so that children do not leave their studies to get to work.
