According to a note from the Journal El Universal, Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico, proposed the creation of a new law which will establish that the Administradoras de Fondos de Ahorro para el Retiro (Afores) should be able to invest in private infrastructure construction projects, in order to capitalize the construction activity and develop infrastructure projects, in return for more attractive benefits for workers. The new law mentioned earlier will trigger investments in more than 61 billion pesos during the rest of 2009 and 2010 and in almost 125 billion pesos during 2012.
The second note (from Financiero en línea), establishes that Mexico registered the lowest unemployment rate in Latin America (5.7%) in July 2009. This rate is below the data reported by OECD countries (8.5%); however, the year comparison indicates the unemployment rate for Mexico increased in 1.9%. On the other hand, the unemployment index for the United States in August 2009 was 9.7%, 3.5% higher than in August 2008.
