Continuing with the subject on jobless recovery, we performed the following graph where we analyze the major industries of the Mexican economy during the 2001 recession. The horizontal axis measures job growth in the recession and the vertical axis measures job growth in the twelve months of recovery that followed. The position of each industry indicates whether the job adjustments were cyclical or structural.
For example, it is shown that the Construction and Mining industries experienced job losses during the recession; however, during the 12 following recovery months they reoccupied the jobs. These industries had cyclical job flows.
