On Friday, took place in the CISS an International Conference "Crime and Violence in Latin America and the Caribbean" special edition of Well-Being and Social Policy, in collaboration with Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) and UNDP.
The first presentation was by Joao de Mello with the title "Collusion, Price Competition and Inter-Gang Violence." The paper tries to understand, by building a model, why collusion among gangs entails violence. Finally, the model predicts that violence cycles are more likely when the police intervenes, and when drug prices are higher.
