Cancer still the major risk
This report by the American Cancer Society shows an estimate of the cost of cancer at a global level. This is an estimate of the cost associated to loss of productivity and time, and does not include the cost of medical attention. The result is an astounding 1.5 percent of global GDP, or $895 million yearly. This supports the arguments in favor of having much more research on cures, and much more public and private efforts on prevention.
