According to an article published by the New York Times, old age population in the United States has grown faster and is living longer than before.

Americans that live to 65 years of age can expect to live in average 18.5 more years (four years more than in 1960); women living up to 85 years old live approximately 6.8 more years and men, 5.7 more years. Life expectancy is even bigger in the majority of European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cuba, and Costa Rica. There has been a small increase in the proportion of old age people with high incomes and a small decline in the proportion living in poverty. The complete report is available here.
