Southern Cone: The increase in unemployment was lower than predicted.

The open unemployment rate in the region increased 0.8% in 2009, from 7.3 to 8.1%. According to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), this increase was lower than the originally feared.
