Encouraging or discouraging retirement savings in Mexico?
Enrique Marín, Mercer´s Retirement Director in Northern Latin America, stressed out that it is important to encourage people to start thinking about their retirement savings. However, some measures adopted in Mexico seem to persuade people on doing the opposite (e.g. applying taxes on social security pensions and limiting voluntary saving amounts). He presented the results of the study “Transforming Pensions and Healthcare in a Rapidly Ageing World: Opportunities and Collaborative Strategies”, a publication that establishes various points that nations must follow in order to face the pension’s problem.
