Chilean FONASA intends to broaden AUGES’s disease coverage

FONASA announced the intention to add 24 new pathologies to AUGE plan, which currently includes 56 diseases. However, together with this news the Superintendencia also announced that some of the diseases currently included in AUGE plan present a serious delay in attention as is the case of Cataracts that according to this institution 480 people haven’t been able to receive surgical intervention since July 2008.

FONASA’s authority said that such delay is due to several reasons ranging from the lack of specialists in hospitals to the lack of information in the whole system causing people ignorance of when and where to complain for the lack of attention. However, he assured that FONASA will solve those 480 cases within the next two weeks.
