Boost for healthy habits among students
According to an article in the newspaper El Universal, the soft drink maker PepsiCo accepted the recommendations of the World Heart Federation to promote the removal of carbonated beverages in schools as a measure to reduce the increase in childhood obesity, which can cause diabetes, and heart problems amongst others. PepsiCo decided to stop selling soft drink sugary drinks in elementary and secondary schools in the world by 2012 in collaboration with education authorities. The scheme will apply in all countries where it operates, whereas in the U.S. is already in effect.
