The most recent national poll to analyze retirement decision in Canada found that one third of Canadian workers will delay retirement (see the note here). These findings contrast to recent records which show that labor force participation of older people in Canada is decreasing (see this article of Baker, Gruber and Milligan). Beyond analyzing the differences between the results of the poll and the recent experience, we believe we should understand the reasons that determine retirement decision. In this book this topic is analyzed for developed countries, specially the role of social security arrangements. For Latin American countries the number of studies is thin. Some studies for Mexico and Brazil have won the CISS Award for Research on Social Security (see here for details).
